More than 30 people, including three policemen have been injured as mobs of two community clashed in Ghaziabad over the use of loudspeakers on Sunday. Several vehicles have also been burnt and shops looted and gutted at Farid Nagar.
According to police, the trouble erupted when a group of two communities quarrelled over the use of loudspeakers in two adjacent places of worship.
As some youths from one community forcibly tried to shut down the loudspeaker of the other community, the quarrel led to widespread clashes.
Senior police officials including Deputy Inspector General (Meerut) Ramit Sharma rushed to the spot.
Police have registered a case for rioting against hundreds of people including former Farid Nagar chairman Lalit Garg and local councillor identified only as Arif.
The entry of political leaders into the town has been restricted.
Centre expresses concern over recent incidents of group clashes in UP
The Centre on Monday expressed concern over two recent incidents of group clashes in Uttar Pradesh. In a communication, the Home Ministry has asked the state government to take all possible measures to ensure peace in Kasganj and Saharanpur districts where there were group clashes on 26th and 27th of this month.
