Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar for this year has been announced. Five novelists, four writers of short stories, and three authors of poetries, among others were awarded yesterday for their contribution to children’s literature. Instituted by the Sahitya Akademi, the award comprises 50,000 rupees and a casket containing an inscribed copper plaque and a citation. The Akademi said in a statement that Sowmya Rajendran and Nivditha Subramaniam have been awarded for their English novels.
Sherjang Garg has been honoured with the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his total contribution to Children’s Hindi Literature. Bano Sartaj has been awarded for her book on a one act play in Urdu.
Tiren Boro (Bodo), Ramnath G Gawade (Konkani), Ramdeo Jha(Maithili) and Mukti Upadhyay ‘Baral’ (Nepali) have been awarded for their novels, the Akademi said in a statement. Those who have won for their short stories are Nayeem Kashmiri (Kashmiri), Thokchom Thouyangba Meitei (Manipuri), Krishna Kumar ‘Ashu’ (Rajasthani) and Janardhan Hegde(Sanskrit). Tara Chand Kalandri (Dogri), Srikanta Saren (Santali) and Sella Ganapathi (Tamil) have been awarded for their poetry collections.
Eli Ahmed (Assamese), Kartik Ghose (Bengali), DhirubenPAtel (Gujarati), T S Nagraja Shetty (Kannada), Sivadas (Malayalam), Leeladhar Hegde (Marathi), Snehlata Mohanty (Odia), Sukhdev Madpuri (Punjab), JethoLalwani (Sindhi) and Chokappu Venkataramana (Telugu) have been honoured with the Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2015 for their total contribution to Children’s Literature.
