Good Friday was observed across India with solemn prayers and religious services marking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Vice President C P Radhakrishnan said that on the occasion of Good Friday everyone remembers the sacrifice of Jesus . Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the day commemorates the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and wished for harmony, compassion and forgiveness. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the occasion honors Christ’s sacrifice and called for kindness, stronger faith and harmony.
In Mizoram, churches held special services from Thursday evening, including Holy Communion. Worship today featured hymns, sermons on the Passion of Christ, and traditional congregational singing. Catholic communities organized processions, while the day was marked as a public holiday.
In Tripura, devotees gathered in churches, including in Agartala, for prayers and services emphasizing sacrifice, love and forgiveness. The day was observed with silence and reflection under security arrangements.
In Odisha, special prayers and fasting were held across districts, with large gatherings in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Berhampur. Security was tightened in sensitive areas.
In Keralam, churches held prayers and Way of the Cross services, with large gatherings in Thiruvananthapuram. The day was marked by penance during Holy Week.
