United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for a peaceful settlement to the West Asia conflict. He said that it is high time for the United States and Israel to stop the war that is inflicting immense human suffering and triggering devastating economic consequences. He asked Iran to stop attacking neighbouring nations. In a tweet, he said that conflicts end when leaders choose dialogue over destruction. He said that the choice still exists and it must be made now.
Speaking to the press outside the Security Council in New York, the UN chief said every day this war continues, human suffering grows. As the West Asia conflict entered its second month, causing economic and humanitarian hardships in the region and beyond, Guterres stressed on dialogue and diplomacy to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Emphasising that diplomatic efforts are underway to find a peaceful path forward, Mr Guterres said disputes must be settled peacefully and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all Member States must be respected. He said that the world is on the edge of a wider war that would engulf the whole of West Asia with dramatic impacts around the globe.
