Union – Home Secretary Govind Mohan Friday inaugurated the National Dialogue on Online Crimes Against Women and Children, calling for a massive overhaul of institutional capacities across India to tackle the evolving digital threat landscape.

Speaking at the event organized by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Mr. Mohan emphasized that as India’s digital ecosystem expands, the risks faced by vulnerable groups have grown exponentially. He urged States and Union Territories (UTs) to move beyond traditional policing and develop specialized, robust units dedicated specifically to cyber-crimes.

Key Directives from the Home Secretary:

  • Institutional Strengthening: States must prioritize building high-tech infrastructure and training personnel to handle complex online offenses.
  • Coordinated Response: He stressed the need for a seamless mechanism that ensures timely investigations, immediate victim support, and swift legal action against perpetrators.
  • Priority Status: Law enforcement agencies have been directed to treat online crimes against women and children as high-priority cases, ensuring no delay in the response cycle.

The National Dialogue serves as a strategic platform for stakeholders—including law enforcement, policy-makers, and technology experts—to brainstorm and refine collective strategies to prevent digital exploitation and ensure a safer internet for all.
