The US is recalling nearly 30 career diplomats from ambassadorial and other senior positions at American missions abroad. Heads of diplomatic missions in at least 29 countries were notified last week that their terms would end in January. All of them assumed their posts under the Joe Biden administration.
The largest number of US ambassadors were recalled from Africa, including Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Gabon, Cote d’Ivoire, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, and Uganda. Six ambassadors were recalled from Asian countries, including Fiji, Laos, the Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Vietnam. US ambassadors were also recalled from Armenia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovakia, Algeria, Egypt, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Guatemala, and Suriname.
