NEW DELHI: In order to sensitize people about the environment and climate change and matters concerning the endangered species, the ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Friday released a calendar with the theme “India’s Endangered Species”.
Released by the I and B minister Ambika Soni, the calendar for 2011 is brought out by the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), an important organ of her ministry.
Speaking on the occasion, Soni said in order to sensitize the people of the country on the subject , the calendar was being sent to all Panchayats in the country, all Eco-Clubs in schools across the country and Schools under “Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan” and “Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan” .
Approximately 2 lakh schools would be covered. 12 lakh calendars were being printed for distribution. The endangered species covered each month separately include: the Tiger, the Asiatic lion, the Vulture, the Indian Elephant, the Indian One Horned Rhino, the Swamp Deer or Barahsingha, the Black Necked Crane, the Western Tragopan or the Western Horned Tragopan, the Snow Leopard, the Oliver Ridley Turtle, the Golden Langoor and the Red Panda.
The Minister also highlighted the key features of the new programme being mounted by Song & Drama Division. The Media Unit has mounted a new Sound & Light Programme titled “Jamuniya” based on a Multi Media Theatrical format involving more than 100 artists & technical crew. The programme highlighted the impact of key policies of the Government under various flagship schemes on the character ‘Jamuniya’, a woman staying in a typical Indian village.
The programme show-cased the empowerment of the character “Jamuniya” through the benefits of programmes available to common people at the grass-root level. The new programme highlighted the theme, ‘Tasveer Badalte Bharat Ki!’ on account of the impact of flagship schemes on the common people.
In his welcome address Director General DAVP Frank Noronha outlined the initiatives taken by the DAVP in the past one year. He specifically mentioned the key initiatives in the AV Sector, IT & digital initiatives and the steps taken for streamlining the empanelment procedure of newspapers and magazines including implementing the recommendations of the Rate Structure Committee.
