NEW DELHI: The top brass of the Congress party on Tuesday evening met at the Prime Minister’s residence to take stock of political situation in the country.  The party is particularly perturbed over the opposition refusal to budge on its demand for a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum scam.

The Congress Core Group meeting that lasted for 90 minutes strategised on the way ahead in the wake of the continuing logjam in Parliament that has washed out almost the entire Winter Session. It was not known what transpired in the meeting.

Both Houses of Parliament had to be adjourned for the 18th working day in a row as  the stalemate over the issue continues. Except for the laying of Mid-Year Analysis for 2010-11 and the introduction of a few Bills in midst of pandemonium, no other business could be conducted.

The non-UPA and non-NDA members also staged a Dharna outside Parliament to press their demand for JPC probe. The Congress on the other hand, hit back at the Opposition for not allowing Parliament to function. Talking to reporters here, party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan strongly condemned the opposition attitude and said, they are answerable to the people. She said there is no change in her party’s stand on JPC demand as the Public Accounts Committee started looking into the CAG report on 2G Spectrum allocations. Replying to a question, Natarajan said, all the allies of UPA are going along with the government’s stand.

Meanwhile, TMC leader Sudeep Bandhopadhyay said that his party will support the stand of the government on the issue of demand for JPC.
