SRINAGAR: The three-member panel of interlocutors on Kashmir visited the Central Jail here on Sunday and met detained youths there. These youths have been arrested in connection with stone-pelting in the valley recently. After arriving in Srinagar on Saturday, the panel members visited the jail and talked to detenues for more than two hours. The leader of the panel and noted journalist Mr. Dilip Padgaonkar made it clear that the panel will talk to everyone including militants. The panel members also met some senior journalists and a delegation of Akhil Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha. Earlier, Mr. Padgaonkar said in Srinagar that the people in Kashmir are yearning for a candid talk.
However the BJP has criticized head of the panel Mr. Dileep Padgaonkar for his comment that J-K problem could not be solved without involving Pakistan. The party demanded that the PMO should explain whether Padgaonkar is authorised to make such a statement.
Meanwhile the Home Ministry has asked the Delhi Police to examine whether a case can be registered against the hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and few others for their reported hate speeches.
According to Delhi Police, a case can be registered only after all aspects and the content of their speeches are examined.
The Home Minister Mr.P Chidambaram had earlier said that Delhi police will take action in accordance with law over the speeches made at a seminar in Delhi on 21st of this month.
