The PoC was conducted in semi urban setting in Nanjangud taluk in Mysore district in line with UIDAI’s successful and proven practice of conducting such studies before launching any service. The iris authentication is required for UIDAI’s AADHAR programme.
It was conducted between 27th May and 30th July this year. 215,342 iris authentication transactions from 5833 residents were studied in it. The PoC brought out the specific improvement areas that biometric ecosystem needs to work uponto further improve the accuracy and coverage percentage.
Such studies would lead to formulation of iris device specifications for certification and deployment purposes. The release added that a combination of iris and fingerprint authentication can further the goals of universal inclusion and pave the way for successful applications based on Aadhaar authentication.
