The upward spiral of the Covid-19 sample positivity rate continued in Bangladesh with the latest rate recorded on Monday at 10.87 percent. One death was also recorded on Monday after 20 days taking the death toll to 29132. It is the highest positivity rate since February 16 this year when the positivity rate was recorded to be 12 percent. The highest covid positivity rate in the country was reported on January 28 at 33.37 percent.

The positivity continued to decline over the next few months after January. It was close to 1 percent on June 11. It slowly climbed to approximately 2 percent on June 2, 4 percent on June 14 to over 6 percent on June 16 finally reaching 6.27 percent on June 17, and 7.38 percent on June 19 as per the data provided by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Meanwhile, Bangladesh continued the Covdi-19 vaccination drive with more than 75 percent people receiving the first dose of the vaccine till Sunday against the WHO mandated 70 percent target. Over 12.89 crore have received the first dose, 11.86 crore people the second dose and 2.79 crore the booster dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
