The High Commission of India in Bangladesh on Thursday organised a get together of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) alumni of Bangladesh who had studied in India and attended professional courses in Indian institutions of excellence. The get together was organised on the occasion of the birth anniversary of India’s first Education Minister and ICCR Founder President Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

More than 150 alumni took part in the celebrations. They shared their experiences and recalled how these courses helped them shape their careers. The alumni offered suggestions on fine tuning these scholarship programmes to better suit the present day requirements.

A brief presentation was given to highlight the new features being incorporated in various flagship programmes of the government of India especially the Suborno Jayanti Scholarship programme. It is a new scheme announced during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh in March this year. The Subarno Jayanti Scholarship provides increased opportunities to the brightest minds to pursue various courses in the institutes of excellence in India.

More than 10,000 Bangladeshi nationals have availed of the various flagship schemes of the government of India namely Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), AYUSH, ITEC scholarship schemes as well as Study in India (SII), Self Financing Schemes (SFSs). Many of the alumni are now holding eminent positions in government, administration, academics, private sector and arts and culture in Bangladesh, said the press release issued by the High Commission of India.
