Around 300 unaccompanied Afghan children have been evacuated from Kabul since the Taliban took over on 15 August, United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) said on Tuesday.

The fund added that many more have been separated from their parents in the chaos that unfolded after Taliban laid siege to Kabul.

The fund expect this number to rise through ongoing identification efforts, Unicef chief Henrietta Fore said in a statement to the media.

Unicef along with its partner agencies have been involved in registering the evacuees who have been airlifted out of Kabul since 14 August.

Some of the children who left Afghanistan have been evacuated on flights to the United States, Germany, Qatar and other countries, the UN agency told reporters.
