The government of Bangladesh has announced that the ongoing lockdown will be eased for a week from July 15-22 ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha festival to facilitate movement of public and business activity. However, it will be followed by two weeks of strict lockdown starting from July 23 till Aug 5.
During the two week period of restrictions starting from July 23, all offices will remain closed. Government offices will transact business through online means. Public transport including domestic flights will remain suspended. Malls and shops will remain closed. However, the shops for daily items will operate for a limited period. Factories and industries will also remain closed during this period. No public gathering for social,political or religious purposes will be allowed. Armed forces will aid the civil administration in implementing the lockdown as per requirement.
The notification to this effect was issued by the Cabinet Division of the government of Bangladesh on Tuesday.
During the relaxed period of restrictions between July 15-22, people have been advised to follow the health guidelines issued by the government to control the spread of Coronavirus. Bangladesh Railway has announced resumption of passenger train services from Thursday with appropriate health guidelines in place. However, only half of the tickets will be issued for the travellers through online channels.
