Reports of reopening of schools of class 9 to 12 are coming from Sangli, Satara and Washim districts in Maharashtra. However, several major municipal corporations led by Mumbai civic body, Thane, Pune, Nashik and Nagpur have decided not to reopen schools in their respective areas in the wake of rise in Covid-19 cases.
According to our Sangli correspondent, adequate attendance of the students was seen as the schools reopened this morning.
Although, classroom education was shut for past many months, but through online education it was ensured that students do not suffer.
The Maharashtra Government has put the onus on the district authorities to take a call on reopening of schools by reviewing the Covid situation.
The school authorities have been taking due care in adhering to the Covid 19 protocol.
In neighbouring Satara district too, overwhelming attendance of the students were seen.
Leader of opposition in state assembly Devendra Fadnavis has appealed the government to rethink about the decision and do not implement it all over the state.
Another MLC Kapil Patil has written a letter to the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in this regard and urged him to withdraw the condition of mandatory 50 percent attendance for the teachers in the schools in the state.
He has pointed out to the increasing number of teachers who are contracting the virus during the mandatory health check up for reopening the schools.
