Says 62.59 per cent voter turnout in Delhi polls

Final voter turnout in Delhi Assembly elections is 62.59 percent. Elections to the 70-member Delhi Assembly were held on Saturday.

Briefing media here this evening, Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh said in the 2015 Assembly polls, Delhi had recorded a voter turnout of 67.47 per cent. He said the lowest voter turnout of 45.4 percent was recorded in Delhi Cant and highest of 71.6 percent was recorded in Ballimaran constituency. The polling percentage in Okhla constituency was 58.84 percent.

On delay in announcing voting percentage, the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer said that it is very important to ensure accuracy. He said, returning officers were busy with scrutiny to ensure data accuracy which took time.

AAP alleges BJP trying to tamper EVMs

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) as to why the ECI has not released the final voting percentage even after a day.

Hours after the Delhi Assembly elections took place on Saturday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was making attempts to tamper the EVM machines. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) as to why the ECI has not released the final voting percentage even after a day.

Kejriwal tweeted “Absolutely shocking what the EC is doing. Why are they not releasing poll turnout figures, several hours after polling?”
