President, PM condole demise of noted Hindi author Namvar Singh

President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and other eminent leaders have condoled the death of eminent Hindi critic Namvar Singh.

In a tweet, the President said, he is deeply grieved by the demise of Dr Namvar Singh, who established a new paradigm in Hindi literature. His demise is not only a big trauma for Hindi but for the literature of all the Indian languages.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, he is deeply hurt due to the death of a towering figure of Hindi literature. He said, Namwar Singh gave Hindi literature a new direction through his criticism. Mr Modi termed the death of Namvar Singh as an irreparable loss to the world of literature.

The Home Minister said, Namvar Singh established a new paradigm of Hindi literature and created new idioms. Mr Singh said, his death is an irreparable loss for the world of Hindi literature and society.

Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh also condoled the demise of Namvar Singh. Talking exclusively to AIR News, Harivansh termed Namvar Singh as a powerful speaker who always inspired the youth. He said, the vacuum created due to his demise will be very difficult to fill.

Condoling the death of Namvar Singh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said, the Indian languages have lost a powerful voice with his demise. Mr Gandhi said, he spent his entire life, making the society tolerant and democratic.

Noted Hindi writer Namvar Singh passed away in New Delhi last night. He was 92. Prof. Namvar Singh was ill for some time and was being treated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Born on 28th July, 1926 in a village in Varanasi, Singh was the first chairman of JNU’s Centre of Indian Languages. He had authored over a dozen books including ‘Kavita Ke Naye Pratiman’, ‘Chhayavad’ and ‘Dusri Parampara Ki Khoj’ among others.

He received Sahitya Academy Award for literary criticism in 1971 for ‘Kavita Ke Naye Pratiman’.

He had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha election as a candidate of Communist Party of India in 1957 from Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh.
