All delegates from six countries Prime Minister Narendra Modi have arrived in Kathmandu to take part in the fourth Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit in Kathmandu.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed and Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Modi’s Indian Air Force’s special plane landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport at around 8:50 am. Bangladesh’s national flag carrier special plane landed at around 9:25 am. Chan landed on a special Thai Airways chartered aircraft at 10 am. Domestic and international flights to and from the airport were halted for the VVIPs arrival.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was received at the airport by the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister of Nepal Ishwor Pokharel.
Mr Modi was accorded Guard of Honour at the airport. He is having a very busy schedule in Nepal. He will call on President of Nepal, Bidya Devi Bhandari alongwith other leaders of the BIMSTEC and attend a luncheon hosted by the President Bhandari.
Later the Prime Minister will participate in the 4th BIMSTEC Summit and address the inaugural session. On the sidelines of the summit, Mr Modi will have bilateral meetings with the President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina. In the evening he will attend a banquet hosted by the Prime Minister of Nepal K.P.Sharma Oli in the honour of BIMSTEC leaders.
