Army, Navy, AIF, Coast Guard in aid to Kerala to cope with unprecedented floods

With flood water receding in many parts of Kerala, people have started returning to their homes and begun cleaning operations.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the government has also decided to distribute cleaning kits.

The cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister today decided to seek relief package worth 2600 crore rupees from the Centre.

The cabinet also recommended the governor to convene special assembly session on August 30th to discuss relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.

Though the rescue operations in state is almost complete, Nelkiyampathy in Palakkad remains still isolated due to landslides.

At present food water and medicines are being distributed by voluntary organisations by foot.

The rescue efforts in Chengannur have been completed after it was ensured that no one had been left stranded in any part of the region.

The accessibility to places has become easier as the water level receded. The service of navy will continue in Chengannur.

The areas in which Pamba river had flowed suffered serious damages. Thousands of homes were affected by the flood.
