AMN –
Lok Sabha speaker, Sumitra Mahajan has termed the amendment made in the land acquisition bill as a need of hour and in the interest of the nation. Addressing media persons on the sidelines of inaugural ceremony of the state- of- the art indoor kho-kho stadium in Indore yesterday, Mrs Mahajan said, the government has made the amendment keeping in view farmers’ welfare and it is in favor of farmers.

She said changes are being made keeping in mind the changing economic scenario, along with the overall development of the nation. She said, government wanted to make its ‘Make in India’ campaign successful and for this it is very necessary to make a few amendments in the bill.

Clarifying misconception on the issue, Mrs. Mahajan said the vital aspects of the bill such as compensation to farmers and getting their consent before acquiring their land have been retained. Amendments are only made to speed up the work, she added.
