At least 20 people were killed and over 100 injured in twin bomb blasts at a church during Sunday Mass. The first explosion went off inside the cathedral in Jolo, on the island province of Sulu, and was followed by a second blast in the car park outside, killing military and civilians.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The attack came days after minority Muslims in the country endorsed a new autonomous region in the southern Philippines ending nearly five decades of a separatist rebellion that has left 1 lakh 50 thousand people dead. Although most of the Muslim areas approved the autonomy deal, voters in Sulu province, where Jolo is located, rejected it.
