10 people are missing after an avalanche struck the base camp of Himlung Himal in the western part of Nepal near the Tibet border, said expedition organisers today. Expedition organiser Mingma Gyalje Sherpa said the avalanche struck the camp this morning.
The evacuation followed a weather warning issued last week, while heavy snowfall had already forced climbers to retreat from autumn ascents.
