Arab League has announced that it will launch an international media campaign to explain the gravity of US decision to shift its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Arab league statement was made after the emergency meeting of Foreign Ministers from 22 countries in Cairo yesterday.

The statement also called on the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution condemning US President Donald Trump’s decision. The ministerial council for a resolution stated that Mr Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel was a dangerous development that places the US in a position of bias in favour of the occupation. It said, Mr Trump’s decision is illegal and a dangerous violation of international law.

The resolution also said that the US decision undermines efforts to bring about peace, deepens tension and will spark anger that will threaten to push the region to the edge of the abyss of violence, chaos and bloodshed. It demanded that the international community exert pressure to pursue implementing the two-State solution. The resolution also said that the ministers would again meet within a month.

As violent confrontations between Israeli military and Palestinians continue in wake of Trump’s Jerusalem announcement, Arab League has urged the United States to abandon this move. In its extraordinary session, the Council of the Arab League has said that this decision by President Donald Trump was a dangerous violation of international law. The Arab allies said that any declaration on Jerusalem before reaching a final settlement would harm the peace negotiations and make them more complicated, stressing that this is a provocation to the feelings of Muslims around the world and a bias in the US position. Condemning the US decision on Jerusalem, head of the Arab League said that it was dangerous and unacceptable.

Meanwhile a wave of anger against a US decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital has spread from Asia, through the Middle East, to North Africa, with tens of thousands of people taking to the streets to denounce the controversial move.

Protesters filled central avenues and squares in a number of major international cities on Sunday, waving the flag of Palestine and shouting slogans to express their solidarity with the Palestinians, who see East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.

US President Donald Trump’s announcement on Wednesday drew near-universal condemnation from world leaders and inflamed the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with violence flaring up in the occupied Palestinian territories for a fifth day.

According to the Palestinian Red Crescent, 157 people were injured on Sunday in confrontations with Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, Jerusalem and Gaza.

At least four Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the US declaration.
