On Wednesday, Singapore’s Acting High Commissioner Alice Cheng met the Assam Chief Minister and expressed condolences on Garg’s death.
The High Commission said the Singapore Police Force had shared Garg’s autopsy report and preliminary findings with the Indian High Commission in Singapore on Oct. 1.
“The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has conveyed Mr Garg’s autopsy report and its preliminary findings to the Indian High Commission in Singapore on 1 October 2025 at the latter’s request. As investigations are still ongoing, we are unable to comment further on the case,” the High Commission said on X.
It added that the authorities sought patience and understanding from the people of Assam while the investigation continued.
Garg, a popular singer from Assam, died in Singapore on September 19, allegedly while swimming, a day before he was to perform at the Northeast India Festival.
Those accused in the case include event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, suspended APS officer Sandipan Garg, and two police security officers, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya.
“The Ministry of External Affairs has informed the Singapore authorities that two officers from Assam Police will soon travel to the island nation,” he said. Sarma clarified that a joint investigation with Singapore is not legally permissible under international law.
He added that Singapore has extended full cooperation to facilitate the inquiry, assuring that every effort is being made for a thorough and transparent investigation into the artiste’s untimely death. Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs invoked the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore at Assam government’s request. Under MLAT provisions, Singaporean authorities are obliged to share case details, provide investigative support, and cooperate in legal procedures, including extradition of accused individuals, if necessary.
