Women from Bhumata Ranragini Brigade led by Trupti Desai stormed in the premises of Shani Shinganapur temple in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar District Saturday afternoon, but were stopped by locals and the temple trust authorities from entering the inner sanctum of the temple.

Raising slogans against the Maharashtra Government and the police administration, the protesting activists said they would not leave the place until they were allowed to pay their obeisance at the temple.

Later they were detained and sent back to Pune by the Police.

The Bhumata Ranragini Brigade’s move came a day after the Bombay High Court stated that prohibiting women from entering places of worship is against the Fundamental Rights bestowed upon them by the Constitution.

Stating that prohibiting them from entering the Holy Platform at Shani Shinganapur was violation of the High Court’s order, Desai said if needed they will file an FIR against the Maharashtra Home Minister and Chief Minister.

While clearing their stand residents of Shingnapur and Temple Trust Authorities said that they have not yet received copies of High Court Order.

They have also made it clear that after receiving copies of the order they are going to challenge it in Supreme Court.
