Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan has urged young people to stay away from drugs and encourage their friends to say no to drugs.
Addressing the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Geetanagar College here today, he stressed that students must make responsible choices and safeguard their time, health and future. C P Radhakrishnan said India’s young population is its greatest strength and that the opportunities emerging in areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, space research and entrepreneurship can enable the youth to play a leading role in building a developed India.
Stating that quality education, research, and character building are essential for the nation’s progress he asked educational institutions to go beyond preparing students for careers and focus on creating responsible citizens for democracy and society.
The Vice President highlighted the growing achievements of women in higher education, describing it as a welcome transformation and a reflection of Nari Shakti. He noted that providing women with the right education and opportunities enables them to stand on their own feet, which constitutes true empowerment.
Referring to Assam’s development trajectory, Radhakrishnan said that over the last five years, Assam’s economy has expanded by 45%, with per capita income rising by 54% from 2021-22 to 2024-25. Emphasizing Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, the Vice President said the inclusive development of every state and region, particularly the North East, is essential to achieving this goal.
The Vice President is on a two-day visit to Assam starting today. This afternoon, Shri Radhakrishnan will attend the Convocation Ceremony of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences at Jyoti-Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir, Guwahati.
