Actor Saeed Jaffrey has died at the age of 86. Jaffrey’s niece Shaheen Aggarwal shared the news on Facebook yesterday. Saeed Jaffery is known for his roles in movies like Gandhi, Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Henna and Ram Teri Ganga Maili.
He was also the first Indian to receive the Order of the British Empire. Jaffrey started his career in All India Radio before moving to America as a Fulbright scholar where he studied drama from The Catholic University of America.
He was the first Indian to take Shakespearean plays on a tour to the US. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep condolences over the passing away of Jaffrey. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, Saeed Jaffrey was a multifaceted actor whose flair and versatility will always be remembered.
