United States and Iran seemed to have made progress on implementing an international nuclear deal during a UN meeting of the countries’ chief diplomats. US Secretary of State John Kerry and Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met in NEW YORK for two-and-a-half hours after Tehran complained that it is not receiving enough sanctions relief.

Mr Kerry yesterday said that they worked on a number of key issues and have made some progress on these. He said that both the countries are working at making sure that the Iran nuclear agreement or Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is implemented in exactly the way that it is meant to be.

Zarif said both the countries have agreed that they will continue to work on this and meet again on Friday to see how best they can put the necessary measures into operation in order to make sure the benefits for Iranian people.

The meeting at the United Nations was the first face-to-face encounter since January 16, when the two sides met in Vienna to formally implement the nuclear deal, which imposes controls on Tehran’s nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanctions relief.
