The US and its Asian allies have begun their first joint military exercise since President Donald Trump took office. The annual Cobra Gold military exercise hosted by the US and Thailand is one of Asia’s largest multinational drills.
More than 8,300 personnel from 29 countries, including Japan, South Korea, China and Southeast Asian nations are taking part this year. The head of the US Pacific Command attended an opening ceremony yesterday in Thailand’s Chonburi Province for the first time in 3 years. The 11-day exercise is to include landing drills using amphibious vehicles and humanitarian assistance projects.
