Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale yesterday visited Jammu as part of the Public Outreach Programme. AIR correspondent reports that during his day-long visit, Mr Athawale distributed tri- Scooties, Wheel Chairs, Smart Phone, Hearing aid and sanitizer kits among the beneficiaries under various schemes of Social Welfare Department.
While addressing the media, Mr Athawale said that the Outreach Programme is a unique and ambitious exercise by the Union Government to reach the doorsteps of the people to assess the local issues and development needs and ensuring that beneficiary oriented schemes are actually reaching to the last person in the queue.
Later, Mr Athawale chaired a meeting with senior officers of Social Welfare Department to review the implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes in J&K and asked the concerned officials to create public awareness regarding various social welfare schemes meant for downtrodden sections of society so that benefits of the same could be percolated to ground level.
The Minister said that Govt. has taken stern of actions and loan schemes launched under PMEGP to engage the youth for availing loan for establishment of their units to earn livelihood. He further said that the department has also provided scholarships for those who wanted to study in foreign universities and regarding this all necessary information is available on the web portal of Social Justice and Empowerment Department.
