The ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu has authorised the party supremo and Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa to device its strategy for the assembly elections due in early 2016.

The party general council met in Chennai this morning. 14 resolutions were adopted in the meet, many of them praising Ms.Jayalalithaa for her leadership in the party and the development initiatives by her government.

The party general council also urges the Centre to convene a meeting between the Union Ministry of External Affairs and the Srilankan Government to find a solution to the issue of frequent arrests by the neighbouring country. It seeks central funds to the tune of Rs 25,900 crore as flood aid for the state.

The meet also sought the Centre to promulgate an ordinance to allow Jallikkattu-an adventurous game of taming bulls, which is being played normally during Pongal festivities. The Supreme Court banned it last year saying it amounts to torture of animals. It has become a political issue in the state that goes to the polls in the first half of next year.

This is the seventh time the AIADMK supremo Ms Jayalalithaa has been re-elected as its general secretary. She assured her party cadres, she would chalk out the right election plans. She said there is no permanent strategy in politics, and would take decisions depending on the prevailing circumstances.

The party general council claims the poll year of 2016 would be the AIADMK year in the state. A resolution rejects allegations of mismanagement of reservoirs during the recent flood. It comes in the wake of the opposition and many critics blaming government indecision in timely release of water from the Chembarampakkam Lake for the flooding in major parts of Chennai.
