The ruling BJP  in Chhattisgarh suffered a major setback today in the civic bodies elections as the opposition Congress put an impressive show.

Out of the 11 civic bodies, Congress won in 8 civic bodies, while BJP retained remaining 3. Congress won all the four municipal councils and among six Nagar Panchayat seats, the BJP and Congress both won three each.
In the Bhilai municipal corporation election, Congress’s Mayor candidate Devendra Yadav won by more than 45 thousand votes against his BJP rival and sitting MLA Vidya Ratan Bhaseen.

Congress won the chairman post of all four municipal councils in Jamul in Durg district, Khairagarh in Rajnandgaon, Baikunthpur and Shivpur-Charcha in Korea district. In six Nagar Panchayats, Congress won in Bhopalpattannam, Konta and Maro. While, BJP won in Bhairamgarh, Premnagar and Narharpur Nagar Panchayat.

Polling for eleven urban bodies, including one municipal corporation, four municipal councils and six nagar panchayats in Chhattisgarh, was held on December 28.
