Tata Sons has finally emerged as soon front runner amongst bidders to acquire India’s flagship carrier Air India.

The government is currently working on formalities to declare the conglomerate’s name as the prospective owner of the state-owned airline, which was earlier owned by the Tata group.

As of now, the government is working on financial bids that was opened early this week, which indicated that the Tatas as the successful bidder and are ahead of SpiceJet promoter Ajay Singh.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation is also going through an elaborate evaluation through a ministerial panel. Based on their approval a formal announcement would be made.

The panel, Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM) is headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal as members.
