syria-conflictUS has said it holds Russia responsible for the attack on an UN aid convoy in Aleppo. White House spokesman, Ben Rhodes said it is an enormous humanitarian tragedy and Russian Government is responsible for the airstrikes.

However, Russia strongly denies involvement of its own or Syrian planes. Russian Defence Ministry in a statement said the incident was caused by fire on the ground and not by an air strike. UN had earlier said, they are not in a position to determine whether these were in fact air strikes. The attack prompted the UN to suspend all aid convoys in Syria. UN Security Council will hold a high level meeting today on Syria.

Eighteen of 31 trucks carrying aid materials were destroyed and about 20 civilians were killed in the strike on Monday.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov have said in New York that the cessation of hostilities deal was not dead, following talks with delegates of the Syria Support Group. Both the leaders will meet again on Friday.
