NEW DELHI: The union government on Friday approved a Special Scheme for 60 districts in nine states affected by Left Wing extremism. According to a decision taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs a grant of Rs 25 crore rupees will be given to each of the district as grant for the current fiscal and thirty crore rupees in the next financial year.

Giving details of the scheme Home Minister P.Chidambaram  said the funds will be made available to a three member committee headed by the  District Collector. The committee will clear the project in consultations with other District Officers and will be responsible for implementation of the projects. The State Development Commissioners will monitor the implementation of the projects in their states. Mr. Chidambaram said that development under the scheme should be visible by March so that people are benefited in the near future.
He said that the things which could be done immediately in the Naxal affected areas to bring immediate benefit to the people in the villages are roads, Panchayat Ghar , ration shop, Aanganwadi , school building, identifying drinking water source and providing drinking water.
