Head of the Africa Centres for Disease Control (CDC) John Nkengasong has said that South Africa Omicron data should not be extrapolated to all countries across the world. In an online media briefing yesterday he said that Omicron coronavirus variant was found 70 to 80 percent less severe than Delta in South Africa.But it may not be applicable to all countries and the Data should be interpreted with a lot of caution, he added.
A South African study published on Wednesday had found people with the Omicron variant in October and November were 80 percent less likely to be admitted to hospital than those diagnosed with another variant in the same period. The CDC head has said that different vaccination rates among the countries may lead to different outcomes.
