Oomen_ChandyKerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who is facing probe in Solar scam, has cancelled his official engagements today in the wake of growing agitations and protests staged by the opposition in different parts of the State.

Personal security of the Chief Minister has been tightened following a meeting, Mr. Chandy held with the State Police and Intelligence Chiefs in Thiruvananthapuram this morning, to review the law and order situation in the State. Meanwhile, Mr. Chandy’s appeal challenging the Thrissur Vigilance Court order, will come up for consideration of the High Court in the afternoon.

Talking to media persons last night, Mr. Chandy had said he will face the allegations legally. Mr. Chandy has categorically rejected the opposition demand for his resignation, drawing his resolve from the unconditional backing he got from the Congress high command. The State Power Minister, Aryadan Muhammed too denied any plan to resign in the wake of the allegations levelled by accused Saritha Nair and the court directive.

Earlier, opposition Leader V.S. Achudanandan has demanded resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Power Minister Aryadan. He pointed out that former Finance Minister K.M. Mani and Excise Minister K. Babu had to step down in the wake of similar situation. Other opposition party leaders have also demanded Mr. Chandy’s resignation.

The vigilance court yesterday ordered the probe against Mr Chandy and Mr Aryadan on a public interest litigation filed by a social worker alleging their involvement in the Solar scam following accused Saritha Nair’s revelations before the Solar Inquiry Commission.
