NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today came down heavily on central government for not informing the court on the forest clearance given to the Polavarm project.
The two judge bench of justice MK Sharma and justice RC Jena made this observation on the writ petition filed by the state government.
The bench also expressed dismay that when the matter is placed before the court then how the environment and forest ministry have granted the forest clearance that also without informing the court.
Interestingly, on Sep 1 environment and forest ministry has granted forest clearance to Andhra Pradesh government for Polavaram project but the matter is listed before the court and next hearing is on Oct 4.
Meanwhile, no counsel was present today on behalf of the central government.
