Supreme Court today issued notice to the National Investigating Agency (NIA) and Kerala government on an alleged case of love jehad in the southern state.

A division bench of the Apex Court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Jagdish Singh Khehar and also comprising Justice D. Y. Chandrachud, issued notice to the NIA and Kerala government after hearing a plea by a Kerala based man Shafin Jahan, claimed to be the husband of the lady and seeking her custody.

The Apex Court has observed the issue to be a sensitive one and has sought answers from NIA and state government. The girl may be made to appear before the court whenever the court deems it necessary.

The Supreme Court fixed the matter for further hearing till 16th August.
