The Centre has approved projects worth Rs 300 crore for developing Ramayana, Krishna and Buddhist circuits in Uttar Pradesh. Secretary, Union Tourism Ministry Vinod Zutshi told media persons in Lucknow that the investment is aimed at encouraging domestic tourism in a big way comes under the Swadesh Darshan Yojna.
The centre has sanctioned Rupees 100 crore worth of projects for each of these circuits which see a heavy flow of both domestic and foreign tourists. Under the Ramayana circuit, destinations like Ayodhya, Chitrakoot and Sringverpur in UP will be developed. Similarly under the Krishna circuit several religious sites related to him as Mathura, Vrindavan, Govardhan and Nandgaon will be developed to give better facilities and add more attractions.
India being land of Buddha also attracts tourists from countries like Japan, Korea and Sri Lanka so destinations like Sarnath, Shrawasti, Kapilvastu and Kushinagar will be taken up to enhance the tourist facilities.
