KG Subramanyan.jpgRenowned artist and one of the founders of Indian Modern Art KG Subramanyan passed away yesterday in Vadodara. He was 92.

Kerala Born artist was known globally for his terracotta art, toy-making and designing. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2012, Padma Bhushan in 2006 and Padma Shri in 1975. He was also involved in socialist and Gandhian activism.

He was also an art historian and taught at the Fine Arts department of Vadodara’s MS University as well as Kala Bhavan. He retired from Kala Bhavan in 1981. In a career spanning over six decades, the multifaceted artist had been a painter, sculptor, muralist and print maker besides an author of children’s books.

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel condoled the demise of this legendary artist. She said his contribution to the modern art will be remembered forever.
