Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi today said that the President of India had “surprised us” by not rejecting the Opposition’s allegations of ‘vote theft’ rather asked them to produce proof, as INDIA bloc leaders challenged the Modi government and the Election Commission over alleged electoral manipulation.
“We presented our memorandum to her outlining PM Modi and HM Amit Shah’s gross subversion of India’s electoral system and seeking CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. I was shocked that the President did not deny Vote Chori. Instead, she asked us to bring her proof. We will bring her a mountain of it. The INDIA bloc will gladly submit every piece of evidence before her”, said Rahul.
Rahul Gandhi and leaders of the INDIA bloc, representing parties including the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, DMK, RJD, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), submitted a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of undermining India’s electoral system and the constitutional right to vote.
The memorandum alleged large-scale manipulation of EVMs and electoral rolls in several elections, warning that public confidence in democracy was at stake. The Opposition urged the President to intervene and ensure accountability in the electoral process.
The INDIA bloc demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, an immediate halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and restoration of 13.30 crore voters it alleges were illegally deleted. It also called for a return to paper ballots and annulment of Assembly elections where it claims conclusive evidence of vote theft exists.
The opposition leaders appealed to President Murmu to uphold the Constitution and ensure their allegations receive proper scrutiny. The claims in the memorandum represent the Opposition’s position and require independent verification.
