Maoists in Chhattisgarh have killed four police personnel abducted in tribal Bastar region. Police recovered the bodies from the road near Gudma village of Bijapur district. The police personnel were abducted by Maoists from Kutru area of Bijapur district of tribal Bastar division on Monday evening. An armed group of Maoists stopped a passenger bus in which they were traveling and abducted them at gun point.
Four security personnel, killed by Maoists in Chhattisgarh, were earlier associated with Salwa Judum, an anti-Maoist movement that took place in Bastar nearly 10 years ago. During the time of Salwa Judum, local tribal youth were recruited as special police officers to provide logistic and other support to security personnel.
Subsequently, they were absorbed into the state police as assistant constables. By abducting and killing them, Maoists apparently want to unleash terror and to demoralize the security forces. Additional Director General of Police R K Vij said the forces would now intensify the anti-Maoist operations. Chief Minister Raman Singh has described the killings as an act of cowardice.
