The Prime Minister has said that there is no substitute to the joint efforts that can be made by the Centre and the States for better development of India.

Narendra Modi said that for far too long there has been indulgence in politics over Centre-States relationships and that the time has come to work jointly to remove all economic disparities in the country.

In his address after the inauguration of modernised IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal the Prime Minister said, that the political difference of opinion between the Centre and the State may remain, but there should be no differences as far as national development issues go.

Modi said that his government will make concerted efforts to improve infrastructure in the country.

Modi also said, India would have to work for increasing production, value addition to mineral resources and developing the skills of youths to fight poverty in the country.

India is exporting iron ore and then importing steel from China. Then where is the benefit of having iron-ores? he asked.

The Prime Minister said, if these issues were rightly addressed, the unemployed youths would get jobs and would help the country fight poverty.

He called upon the youth to be a part of the enormous economic growth.

He said that the labourers’ sweat and toil will not go in vain.

Mr. Modi said a foundation will be created in each district of the country, where coal mines have been allotted.

Portion of royalty earned through auction will go to the benefit of the locals. Commenting on the economic progress after his government came to power, Modi said even one year ago, the world perceived that India had sunk and that it would not make recovery.

But today, international agencies like the World Bank and IMF were saying that India was among the fastest growing nations in the world, Modi said.

In her speech the West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamta Banerjee said that the Centre and States will have to work hand in hand to improve the lives of people to enhance development, to which the Prime Minister agreed. She said that if India develops, then West Bengal will automatically develop.

Earlier Mr. Modi dedicated the newly modernised plant, built at a cost of Rs. 16,840 crore to the nation.

This will increase the capacity of the plant under SAIL from 4.26 lakh tonnes of steel annually to 2.5 million tonnes per annum.

Among those present in the public meeting were the West Bengal Governor Mr Kesharinath Tripathi, the Union Minister for Mines and Steel Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar, the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Vishnu Dev Sai and the Union Minister of State for Urban Development and local Member of Parliament Mr. Babul Supriya.
