Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Qingdao, Eastern Chinese coastal city this afternoon to attend the 18th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit beginning tomorrow.

This will be India’s first participation as a full member of the 8 nation SCO grouping which includes India, China and Russia as its members.

Meanwhile, a bilateral meeting is underway between Mr Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Qingdao on the sidelines of the summit.

During the meeting, the two leaders are expected to explore ways to deepen ties in areas of trade and investment besides reviewing the overall bilateral cooperation.

Mr. Modi is also expected to hold nearly half a dozen bilateral meetings with leaders of other SCO member countries.

Prime minister will also attend a banquet today to be hosted by Chinese President.
