Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Afghanistan on Saturday to inaugurate Afghan-India Friendship Dam earlier known as Salma Dam.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup told media in New Delhi this evening that the dam project is culmination of years of hard work by Indian and Afghan engineers and other professionals in very difficult conditions.
It also highlights India’s continued commitment to Afghanistan’s reconstruction and development.
Last year in December, the Prime Minister had dedicated the new Parliament Building to the Afghan nation jointly with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. It was constructed under India-Afghanistan development cooperation.
During the visit, Mr Modi will have an opportunity to discuss with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani the situation in Afghanistan and how the two countries can cooperate further for promoting peace and stability in that country.
