India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi today arrived in Tehran on his two day visit to Iran. He was given a red carpet welcome at the Mehrabad International Airport.
During the visit, issues related to peace and security, connectivity, infrastructure, energy partnership with Tehran and enhancing bilateral trade will be high on the agenda.
The visit will feature discussion on terrorism in the region as well as extended neighbourhood.
It will also emphasise on New Delhi’s desire to secure energy assests for a fast growing economy. Tomorrow Mr. Modi will call on Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Mr. Modi will also have discussion with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on bilateral relations and global issues of mutual interest.
The visit is taking place upon an official invitation extended to him by President Hassan Rouhani.
It is the first visit by an Indian prime minster to Iran over the past 15 years which will be of high importance in the wake of termination of economic sanctions against Iran.
During Indian Premier’s visit to Iran, the two sides are to sign a series of agreements on economy, investment, commerce, transport, development of ports as well as cultural, scientific and academic issues.
In a twitter message released on Sunday, Prime Minister Modi called his upcoming meeting with Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei an opportunity for progress of strategic cooperation between New Delhi and Tehran.
