Congress along with other parties leaders today met Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu and gave notice for impeachment against Chief Justice of India.
Later, Briefing media persons, Senior Congress Leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, seven political parties in the Rajya Sabha have signed the motion. He said, 71 MPs including seven retired members belonging to various political parties have signed the notice for impeachment proceedings.
“Leaders from seven opposition parties have signed the notice for impeachment of CJI Dipak Mishra on grounds of misbehaviour”, he said.
The move comes a day after the Supreme Court dismissed series of petitions seeking a fair probe into the death of Judge Loya.
The Opposition leaders, however, said the move has nothing to do with the Justice Loya matter as the signature in support of the impeachment motion were taken during the last session of the Upper House. Also, an appointment with the Vice President was sought a week ago in this regard.
