Odisha continued to reel under scorching heat wave with temperature of 19 places remaining above 40 degree Celsius. Western Odisha town Titilagarh sizzled at highest 46.3 degree while Sonepur was the second hottest at 45.8° degree Celsius. The regional Met department has said heat wave in western Odisha would continue while coastal Odisha would face thunder squall today and tomorrow. It said a few places in the State would get mild rain because of thunderstorms.
The number of sunstroke deaths sharply shot up to 38 including 3 more deaths reported yesterday. The growing heat wave along with acute scarcity of drinking water in different parts of state has thrown life of gear.
The fuel filling stations along with different gas distributing agencies have come forward to open free drinking water stalls near their business centres, besides temporary shelter to the people during the hot summer day time. Meanwhile, the Water Initiatives Odisha has decided to begin a citizen’s advocacy campaign through digital and social media actions to raise vital issues to educate people as well as seek action from the authorities.
