United News of India’s UNI, Editor-in chief Ashok Upadhyay on Sunday said that news for journalists should always be factual and unaffected by individual opinion or analysis.
Addressing a Conference of Urdu Editors organised by West Bengal Urdu Academy here, Mr Upadhyay said: ‘When a journalist’s views influence or affect a news piece in any manner, it becomes dangerous for journalism and adversely affects the society.’
He emphasised on increasing the purview of Urdu journalism and language to other languages because the beauty of the country is hidden in it.
He felt that Hindi is incomplete without Urdu as many Urdu words decorate Hindi poems.
Mr Upadhyay said Hindi and Urdu are related to each other and this strength is hidden in the very existence of secularism, love and brotherhood.
He said a newspaper’s editor should not make unnecessary changes in a news and present it
with full truthfulness. There should not be any personal comments or ideas in the news, and instead of analysing it, it should be left to the readers.
Mr Upadhyay said, “our agency has managed to keep itself neutral.”
Referring to the UNI Urdu service, he said, “We are proud of Urdu service. We will extend it further to the regional level. Many improvements have been made since the beginning of the UNI Urdu service and we are continuously improving its quality.”
Sardar Sarfaraz Arauju, editor of the daily Urdu newspaper ‘Hindustan’, said Urdu journalism can not be compared to English or Hindi as it did not get as much help by the government as English and Hindi journalism get.
Masoom Moradabadi, editor of the ‘Jadid Khabar’, dismissed the allegations of communalism imposed on Urdu journalism and said, ‘it is far from reality. Urdu journalists have played an important role in the country’s Independence and development of the country
